All weddings are made unique for different reasons: it could be the venue, the guests, the general atmosphere or, of course, the Bride & Groom. And then, every now and then, all these elements come together and you realise you’re taking wedding photos in a very special wedding. If I had to sum up Jill & Mo’s Bachilton Barn wedding in one word, that would be it: special.
First up was the venue. Neither Daniel or I had ever photographed at Bachilton Barn before, and we very impressed with it. Views of unspoilt countryside, rustic charm and character alongside friendly and knowledgable staff – that’s a rare combination!
Then there was the Bride & Groom. Jill worked at 10 Downing Street under Gordon Brown, and Mo later worked there under David Cameron, so they come from opposite sides of the politcal divide. However, they proved opposites can attract when they were brought together during the 2016 referendum campaign. As a bit of a political enthusiast myself, it was fascinating speaking to them about the inner workings of Westminster.
With both Daniel & I there we were able to get a combination of cool group photos and informal shots of the prep from both the Bride & Groom.
The Bridal Party and invited guests included people who worked in both Labour & Conservative governments and were a very interesting bunch to say the least!
The ceremony was conducted by a family friend of Jill’s, and there was a lovely relaxed atmosphere that incorporated the different cultures (and political beliefs!) coming together.
With such an interesting Bridal Party, we wanted to give them a particularly creative group photo. After taking this silhouette/flash hybrid it was inside for the speeches – which did not disappoint!
Following the speeches, Daniel & I went out with Jill & Mo to take advantage of the setting sun and get some cool photos of our Bride & Groom.
Unfortunately, by the time we got outside we only got about 3 minutes of photos before the sun was gone! We were looking for that Golden-Hour sun drenched look and so, not to be outdone by the weather, we stuck some orange gells to our flashes and got back to work!
No sun? No problem!
After the portraits it was back inside for the First Dance. Some people (like myself) are happy to shuffle around the middle of the dance-floor. Not Jill & Mo! I was was mightily impressed with their routine!
After a quick outfit change it was on with the dancing again!
Having had such a great day, I was keen to finish on a high and capture a really special Night Photo. Jill & Mo wanted one of our sparkler photos, and I thought it would be interesting to use the reflection in the pond and incorporate some of the unique setting of Bachilton Barn. Here’s what we came up with:
Reflection, sparkles and stars!
It was a genuine pleasure to be a part of this wedding, and to take wedding photos alongside other talented vendors:
