TOP 10 WEDDING VENUES IN SCOTLAND
I've been fortunate enough to photograph in some amazing venues. Here are some of my favourites!
February 18, 2015
I’ve been taking a break from wedding photography since the start of the year, filling my time with building a new garden office (almost done – photos coming soon!) and changing nappies! I start shooting weddings again next weekend, so I thought now would be a good time to list what I consider to my best wedding photos of 2014. Most of these shots are of the bride & groom, but I’ve thrown in a few other favourites from different parts of the wedding day.
It’s great being able to look back on another successful year and see some of the images that we’ve created for our clients. It continues to be a real privilege to capture memories in this way, and I’m so thankful for the couples who value photography and invite me to be a part of the most special day of their lives.

I could’t have started 2014 any better – Caitlin & Paul’s wedding at Colzium House was a cracker! There are some many photos from their wedding that have become firm favourites (Caitlin’s dad’s expression when he sees his daughter come down the stairs was priceless!), but these stand out for me. See some more from their wedding here. The photos that stand out from Fiona & Andrew’s Brig 0’Doon wedding were of Andrew’s Best Man trying to persuade Ghost, a beautiful owl, to bring the wedding rings! It had all gone so well in practice, but during the ceremony Ghost seemed to experience some stage fright and instead of landing on the Best Man’s glove ended up in some flowers! See the rest of the wedding here.We had such a beautiful day for Linzie & Bruce’s Gean House wedding and there was so many beautiful moments to capture. See some more here, but this one is my favourite.Last year I started taking more photographs of the couple at night, and this was my first time doing it. Airth Castle looks great – and so do Jayne & David! See the rest of their wedding here.I really enjoyed Francesca & Stuart’s Cameron House wedding. It was my first time shooting at the venue, and we managed to capture loads of really creative shots. I love the hairspray shot of Francesca taken just before she left for the ceremony, and I also really like the long-exposure photo of them both by the Loch. Check out the rest of the wedding here.
Normally it’s always the bride that gets featured in these posts, but I take photos of the groom too! Just to prove it, here’s a photo that I really like of Eamon waiting for his bride at the church doors. The 2nd photo shows that, as good as Eamon looks, he’ll always be outshone by his new wife Nichola! See their Cotters Theatre wedding here.I love the little moments that can tell so much about the story of a wedding day. I love this photo of Holly, looking all grown-up getting ready for mum & dad’s big day. And the second photo speaks volumes of the relaxed atmosphere there was throughout Fiona & Gary’s Inverness wedding. See more here. This first photo sums up Jorji & Jalal’s wedding for me: fun and relaxed. This photo was taken during a truly special ceremony, and the second photo was the last photo of the night. Such a fun and enjoyable day, see their Western House Hotel wedding here.
Seamill Hydro is a wonderful location for a wedding, and it was great to capture the beach in this photo during Hannah & Abraham’s wedding – what a sky!I’m not generally the biggest fan of group photos as I find them too staged, but I loved taking these photos of Hazel & Paul with their Bridal Party – very relaxed and fun! Lorna & Iain’s Lochside House Hotel wedding was a fantastic day, but I’d put a bit of pressure on myself: their Engagement Shoot was one of my favourites and we’d managed to get some stunning photos during sunset. Luckily we managed to get 5 minutes to go outside just before the First Dance to get some wedding sunset shots! See the rest of the wedding here.Wendy & Colin’s Parsonage wedding was one of the highlights of 2014 for me. The venue is absolutely stunning and we were blessed with amazing weather all day, plus Wendy & Colin were a joy to work with. So many of the photos are favourites of mine, but this sparkler exit shot was the last photo of the night and takes some beating! See more photos from the wedding here.Sarah was an old friend of mine, and so it was an absolute pleasure to photograph her and Graham’s wedding. It was at Lochgreen House Hotel which is a wonderful venue, and we got this photo just before they headed inside for the speeches. The rain just adds something a little extra!Mansfield Traquair in Edinburgh is one of my absolute favourite venues, and so I wanted to capture something pretty special for Lizzie & Tony’s wedding. I loved this photo from their First Dance, but I thought we could do even better so I asked them to come outside for one last photo before I headed home. . .I think it was worth it! You can see the rest of their wedding here.Loch Lomond is always a special place to get married, and Lynsey & John did it in style at the Duck Bay Marina. These two photos show the different results you can get at different times of the day, and demonstrate why I love taking photos at night: I really liked the first photo on the pier, but the 2nd photo (taken when it was pitch black outside) is extra special. Lynsey & John headed over to live in America soon after the wedding so I hoped we provided them with some great memories of Scotland! Check out the rest of the wedding here.Paula & Crae got married at the wonderful Pollok House which, despite being 5 minutes from my home, I’d never photographed in before. I was very excited to photograph in the grounds as they are absolutely stunning. . .but it rained all day. But Scottish wedding photographers have to be good at taking photos inside, and we got some crackers! See more here.
Nicola & Ross’ Glenbervie House wedding was one of my favourites of the year. Glenbervie is a beautiful setting and we managed to get some lovely shots during the day as well as our signature nighttime photos. I’ve also included this photo of one of Nicola’s bridesmaids – love moments like this! See the rest here.2014 was a wonderful year for us, and we finished it in style with Louise & Blair’s wedding at The Vu in Bathgate. An amazing day from start to finish, it was tough to pick my favourite so I’ve gone for two – both highlights of last year. See more if their amazing wedding here.
