TOP 10 WEDDING VENUES IN SCOTLAND
I've been fortunate enough to photograph in some amazing venues. Here are some of my favourites!
December 31, 2012
Bec and I have had the pleasure of photographing some wonderful weddings in 2012. It has been the best year yet for our business and we have made friends with some amazing couples. I thought it would be good to have a look back at our 2012 weddings and pick my favourite ‘couple shot’ from each wedding. These aren’t necessarily my favourite shots from each wedding (that will be coming next week!), or even the best wedding photos of 2012, just my favourite photo featuring the bride & groom. It would be great if you left a comment telling me which one is your favourite photo overall – there might even be a prize for the winning couple!
We started the year up in Inverness at the wonderful Bunchrew House with Louise & Alistair. They were such a sweet couple and I love this image of them being very much in love.
This year Bec & I started to use some cool ‘off-camera’ flash techniques and it really paid-off at Fiona & Robert’s wedding at the Forest Hills Resort in Aberfoyle. This shot was taken at the loch just across from the hotel. Beautiful!
Our first wedding in Edinburgh of 2012 was at the MacDonald Holyrood Hotel photographing Stephanie & Stuart’s wedding. I love this shot – very simple but very classy.
Our next wedding was in Dundee, photographing Kirsteen & Mike’s wedding which was held in Bonar Hall at the University of Dundee. I love the colour in this photo but I chose it for the look of sheer joy on Kirsteen’s face. I always say that capturing real smiles is better than posed smiles and this photo proves it.
Back to Edinburgh for Gillian & Andy’s wedding at Norton House Hotel. The Norton has great grounds and I love this photo of Gillian & Andy amongst the trees.
Once again, Bec and I were photographing in Edinburgh. Alex & Joe were such a fun couple and we had a great laugh taking their photos. This was one of the many highlights.
Cat & Andy’s wedding was special for us as they both go to the same church as us – and they also had their reception at the same place we did, House for an Art Lover!
The weather was not kind to us at Lochside House Hotel for Heather & Ally’s wedding but we managed to get outside for a few minutes and grab this shot with some typically atmospheric grey Scottish skies!
Over to Paisley for our next wedding of 2012. Vicky & Gary got married at the beautiful Thomas Coats Memorial Church. We got this shot just after the ceremony on the steps of the church – always nice to see a bit of confetti!
We always like to reflect our couple’s personalities in our wedding photography, and I loved this shot of Susan & Paul. Not a couple to draw attention to themselves or make a scene, this simple silhouette in the doorway of Mar Hall captured them perfectly.
Next up was Vicki & Alan’s wedding at Kirknewton Stables, a venue with stunning grounds. Vicki & Alan just look like they were having such fun in this photo – a key part to any wedding!
Our second wedding of 2012 at Lochside House Hotel was a little kinder with the weather, and we managed to get this stunning shot of Esther & Alan.
Sabrina & David got had their reception at the Popinjay Hotel but we took the majority of the photos by this bridge on the way there from the church.
One of my favourite weddings of the year, Jean & Shaun’s wedding at the Piersland House Hotel was great fun. Our planned shoot on the beach was almost scuppered by high winds and what seemed to be a million kites lying out along the sand. You even managed to sneak its way into this photo!
Back in Ayrshire for Carlyn & David’s wedding, this time at the Savoy Park Hotel. I struggled to pick my favourite from this wedding – we got lucky with the weather and managed to get so many wonderful photos down on the beach. But this one stands out for me – Carlyn & David were rockin’ it!
We had an amazing time photographing Hannah & Doug’s wedding at Stirling Castle – what a venue! I love how you can see Hannah laughing in this shot, even though it’s a silhouette.
We travelled down to Castle Douglas for Rachel & Ally’s wedding. I love using cool techniques and unusual angles, but sometimes all you need for a great photo is a couple smiling at each other, clearly in love.
The wedding of Julie & Chris was another where I really struggled to pick my favourite. Julie was an expert in front of the camera and Chris looked amazing in his military blues! But this one stands out for me, I just love their expressions.
We’ve shot a few weddings now at Dalmeny Park Hotel and so we decided to keep things creative for Michelle & Nick’s wedding. I love this shot!
Jennifer & Steven were one cool couple, but I love the tenderness of this photo. Their wedding was at Culcreuch Castle and it was great fun.
Our last wedding of 2012 saw us photograph Carra & Paul at the Gailes Hotel. Bad weather forced us inside but we got this cool shot in their honeymoon suite.
It’s been great looking back over all the weddings we’ve captured this year – it’s got me excited for 2013!
